Not a Lender — What RateRankings Is (and Isn't)
Last updated: October 26, 2026
RateRankings is an information and comparison service. Nothing more — and that's deliberate.
RateRankings is not:
- a lender,
- a mortgage broker or loan originator,
- a loan arranger or lead seller,
- an insurance agent or broker,
- a credit card issuer,
- or a financial advisor.
What that means in practice
- We don't arrange financing. We publish advertised rates collected from public sources so you can see who is offering what. Every application, negotiation, and credit decision happens between you and the lender — directly, on their site, under their rules.
- We don't take applications. We never ask for the information a lender needs to decide on a loan — no Social Security numbers, no income documents, no credit authorization. If you're being asked for those, you're on the lender's site, not ours.
- We don't make credit decisions. We can't approve you, pre-approve you, or tell you what rate you'll personally get. Only the lender can.
- We don't give personal financial advice. The site shows advertised terms and explains them in plain English. What's right for your situation is a decision for you — or for a licensed professional you choose to consult.
- Mortgage content is educational. Any mortgage-related rates or explanations on this site are general, display-only information — benchmarks and education to help you understand the market — not a mortgage offer, quote, or referral service.
Why we say it this plainly
Comparison sites blur this line on purpose, because sounding like a lender makes people hand over personal information. We'd rather be exact: information in, links out, you decide. If you want a loan or a card, the lender's own application — reached through our link or on your own — is where that happens, and the lender's disclosures are the ones that count.
